Samsung’s upcoming mid-range smartphone processor, the Exynos 1580, has recently popped up on PowerBoard, generating considerable buzz. This new piece of silicon features an 8-core CPU and introduces a fresh Xclipse 540 GPU, poised to enhance the performance of Samsung’s mid-range smartphones.
While tech enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the debut of the Exynos 2500, the Exynos 1580 will be hitting the market first. This SoC (System on Chip) is the next in line after the Exynos 1480, which powered last year’s popular Galaxy A55. The Exynos 1580’s recent online appearance has given us a peek into its capabilities.
Benchmark scores reveal a mixed bag of results, typical for pre-production units. The Exynos 1580’s Xclipse 540 GPU scored 717 in Sacred Path Vulkan 1.3, 749 in Sacred Path Vulkan 1.3 with Variable Rate Shading (VRS), and 1,661 in The Expedition. For comparison, its predecessor, the Exynos 1480 with the Xclipse 530 GPU, scored 1,191, 1,556, and 614 in these tests.
Despite the mixed GPU performance, the Exynos 1580 does carry forward the 8-core design of its predecessor. Tested on a device boasting 8 GB of RAM and running Android 15, the new SoC promises a 17% performance boost on the CPU front, according to Geekbench results.
If Samsung follows its usual release pattern, we could see the Exynos 1580 in action as early as this March, likely powering the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy A56. The excitement surrounding this new chip hints at a significant leap in mid-range smartphone capabilities, meeting the growing expectations of tech-savvy consumers. Keep an eye out for more updates as we approach its official launch date.
