Until Dawn 2 Hits PS5 This January as Pre-Orders Go Live

Until Dawn 2 Release Date Confirmed for PS5, With Pre-Orders Now Live

Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially confirmed that Until Dawn 2 will launch exclusively for PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027. The long-awaited horror sequel is being developed by Firesprite, with AdHoc Studio contributing to the story.

A new pre-order trailer has also been released, giving players a fresh look at the game’s chilling setting, new characters, and the return of the choice-driven survival gameplay that made the original Until Dawn so memorable.

Until Dawn 2 takes players to Akishima Island

Unlike the first game, which trapped players in a snowy mountain nightmare, Until Dawn 2 moves the horror to Akishima Island, a remote tropical location in the South Pacific. At first glance, the island may look like a paradise, but its abandoned history hides something far darker.

The story follows Dead True, a group of ghost-hunting YouTubers known for staging scares to entertain their online audience. After landing a major deal with a television network, the crew travels to Akishima Island to film its first fully funded episode.

What begins as another manufactured paranormal investigation quickly becomes a real fight for survival. The island’s terrifying secrets are rooted in centuries-old events, and the crew soon discovers that the horror waiting for them is not part of the show.

The Butterfly Effect returns

The fan-favorite Butterfly Effect system is back in Until Dawn 2, meaning every decision can have serious consequences. Player choices will influence relationships, survival chances, and how the story unfolds.

Firesprite says character relationships will play an even bigger role this time. Every member of the Dead True crew can survive, but every one of them can also die depending on the decisions players make.

Until Dawn 2 remains a single-player experience, with no multiplayer mode announced. The focus is once again on cinematic horror, branching choices, tense exploration, and deadly consequences.

Confirmed Until Dawn 2 cast

Until Dawn 2 features eight playable members of the Dead True crew. The confirmed cast includes Dacre Montgomery as Owen, Gavin Leatherwood as Luke, and Tanner Buchanan as Cameron.

Neil Newbon also appears in the game as Sebastian. Peter Stormare returns as Dr. Hill, making him the only confirmed returning character from the original Until Dawn.

With a new setting, a new cast, and a fresh mystery, Until Dawn 2 is being positioned as a standalone sequel. Players will not necessarily need to have played the first game to follow the story, though longtime fans will recognize the return of the series’ signature psychological tension.

Until Dawn 2 editions and pre-order bonuses

Pre-orders for Until Dawn 2 opened on September 10 through the PlayStation Store. The game will be available in two editions: Standard Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition.

In the United States, the Standard Edition is priced at $49.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition costs $59.99.

Players who pre-order either version will receive two Dr. Hill costumes. These include a classic Until Dawn outfit and an Akishima Island outfit. Pre-orders also include bobblehead collectibles that can be found during gameplay.

The Digital Deluxe Edition includes additional bonus content. Players will receive the Y2K Neon Vibes Pack, which gives all eight playable characters neon-themed costumes. It also includes Dioramas of Death, a gallery mode that allows players to revisit each character death.

PS5 Pro enhancements confirmed

Until Dawn 2 will be enhanced for PS5 Pro. The game will support PSSR2 upscaling and advanced ray tracing, aiming to deliver sharper visuals, improved lighting, and a more atmospheric horror experience.

Given the game’s island setting, cinematic presentation, and focus on tension, these enhancements could make Akishima Island feel even more unsettling.

Until Dawn 2 rating and exclusivity

Until Dawn 2 has received an ESRB Mature 17+ rating. The rating includes blood and gore, intense violence, sexual themes, strong language, and drug use.

Sony currently lists Until Dawn 2 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. No PC version has been announced.

With its January 28, 2027 release date now confirmed, Until Dawn 2 is shaping up to be one of the biggest horror games on PS5. The return of the Butterfly Effect, a new island mystery, and a cast of playable characters who can all live or die should give fans plenty of reasons to keep an eye on this sequel.
