Colorful has unveiled a new feature designed to supercharge your gaming experience: the X3D Gaming Mode. This innovative technology is aimed at boosting the performance of Ryzen processors, especially the upcoming Ryzen 9 9000X3D series from AMD. The highlight here is its ability to disable hyperthreading on these high-end CPUs, significantly benefiting those equipped with extra L3 cache.
Interestingly, while this feature is tailored for the X3D series, Colorful also allows its use on standard Ryzen CPUs. This includes all Ryzen 7000 and 9000 processors installed on Colorful’s AM5 motherboards. In a demonstration posted by the company, the X3D Gaming Mode showcases its prowess on the B650 chipset by deactivating Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT) within the BIOS. Whether your processor has one or two Core Complex Dies (CCDs), the feature strategically disables one, routing gaming tasks to a single CCD to minimize latency and thus enhance performance.
For those with X3D processors, this mode is a game changer. The engines with a richer L3 cache can exhibit superior performance once the second CCD is deactivated. This reduction in latency not only amplifies efficiency but also caters to the unique strengths of the hardware. Non-X3D processors get a hefty performance boost under specific conditions too, though this can vary greatly.
When it comes to the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D, the new mode is exceptionally beneficial. For the latter, enabling X3D Gaming Mode essentially transforms it to mirror the performance of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which is acknowledged as one of the fastest gaming CPUs available today. However, enabling this on the 9900X3D might not cater to everyone’s needs, given its core distribution.
While reminiscent of features like Gigabyte’s X3D Turbo Mode, which takes a different approach by tweaking CPU parameters without disabling SMT or CCD, Colorful’s version offers distinct advantages. Users willing to experiment with BIOS settings could unlock significant performance gains tailored to their gaming style and needs.
Colorful claims a performance leap of 17% in games like PUBG with the new mode, providing compelling reasons for gamers to explore this feature. Whether you’re looking to enhance your current setup or maximize the potential of new hardware, X3D Gaming Mode could be the secret sauce to elevate your gameplay.
