Ultra 7 265KF CPU from Intel Triumphs Over Core i7-14700K in Multicore Tests, While AMD Ryzen 9000 Continues to Dominate for Team Red

Rumors are swirling around Intel’s highly anticipated Core Ultra 7 265KF, and it’s shaping up to be quite the contender despite Intel’s decision to forgo Hyper-Threading in its next-generation desktop CPUs. That said, while it shows promise, it might not be enough to topple AMD’s Ryzen 9000 series in every aspect, at least according to recent benchmarks.

In a recent V-Ray render benchmark shared online, the Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF edged out the Core i7-14700K by about 6%. This new 20-core Arrow Lake processor hit scores of 33,036 and 33,270 in separate runs, comfortably outperforming the Core i7-14700K’s average of 31,525. It also outclassed the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X by a substantial 24%, which only reached 25,337 in its fastest attempt.

However, the Core Ultra 7 265KF lagged behind when pitted against AMD’s high-end contenders. It trailed the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X by a hefty 32%, falling significantly short of the latter’s impressive average score of 48,685 in the V-Ray benchmark. Even the Ryzen 9 9900X, another formidable 12-core CPU from AMD, managed an average score of 40,034, making it about 20% faster than Intel’s upcoming offering.

One noteworthy aspect of these performance discrepancies is the power consumption. Reports suggest that the Core Ultra 7 265KF draws between 177–250 W, whereas the Ryzen 9 9900X stays much cooler, consuming only around 162 W. This difference in efficiency could spell trouble for Intel’s new CPU, despite its remarkable performance against the Ryzen 7 9700X. Do keep in mind, though, that these are pre-release benchmark results, so there’s still some room for change as both companies continue to fine-tune their processors.

Beyond the technical specs and benchmark scores, real-world pricing adds another layer to the comparison. The AMD Ryzen 9 9900X is currently priced around $449, similar to the Intel Core i7-14700K, which you can find for about $359.85 with ongoing deals. This makes for a more balanced field when deciding which CPU to opt for, according to your specific needs and budget.
