Ubiquiti UniFi Travel Router Long-Range Debuts With Foldable Antenna for Better WiFi Reach
Ubiquiti has introduced a new compact networking device designed for travelers who often rely on weak or unstable WiFi connections. The latest model, called the UniFi Travel Router Long-Range, adds a foldable antenna aimed at improving wireless reach and helping maintain connections in challenging environments such as hotels, offices, airports, and shared workspaces.
The standout upgrade is the foldable antenna, which is designed to boost range compared with the standard UniFi Travel Router. This could be especially useful when connecting to distant access points, such as hotel WiFi networks where signal strength can vary dramatically depending on the room location. While Ubiquiti highlights improved range as the main benefit, the company has not shared exact performance figures or detailed comparisons with the original travel router.
Aside from the long-range antenna design, the new UniFi Travel Router Long-Range keeps the same core feature set as the earlier model. It is powered through USB Type-C and requires a 5V/2A power source, though a power adapter is not included. Unlike some portable routers, this model does not include a built-in battery, so it must remain connected to external power during use.
For wired connectivity, the device includes two Ethernet ports, giving users the option to connect wired devices or use a wired internet source when available. A second USB Type-C port is also included for tethering, which can be useful for sharing a mobile connection through the router.
On the top of the unit, Ubiquiti has added a small LCD status display. This screen provides quick at-a-glance information, making it easier to monitor the router without needing to open a separate app or management interface.
Wireless performance is based on WiFi 5, also known as 802.11ac, with a maximum stated speed of 867 Mbps. The router also includes Bluetooth for management purposes, helping simplify setup and configuration.
The UniFi Travel Router Long-Range is priced at $99, but availability is currently limited. The device has already sold out, and Ubiquiti has not provided a confirmed restock date. For those who do not need the upgraded antenna, the standard UniFi Travel Router remains available at $79.
With its compact design, USB-C power, Ethernet connectivity, tethering support, and foldable long-range antenna, the UniFi Travel Router Long-Range is positioned as a practical option for users who want more reliable internet access while traveling. Its biggest challenge may not be performance, but actually finding one in stock.
