Trump Announces Purchase Agreement for TikTok

President Donald Trump recently announced that a group of “very wealthy people” is poised to acquire the popular short-form video app, TikTok. In a Sunday morning interview, Trump mentioned, “We have a buyer for TikTok,” adding that he expects to need China’s approval for the deal, hinting at President Xi Jinping’s involvement.

While Trump did not disclose who these buyers are, he promised to unveil their identities in about two weeks. This comes amidst ongoing delays of a bill that would either force TikTok’s owner, ByteDance, to sell the app or face a ban in the United States. Earlier this year, Trump suggested a potential joint venture between current and new owners, with a proposition for the U.S. to hold a 50% ownership stake.

Additionally, Trump previously entertained the idea of allies like Larry Ellison purchasing the app, though Elon Musk seems a less likely contender as of now.
