TP-Link’s New Dual-Lens Indoor Smart Camera Delivers a Wider, Smarter View

TP-Link is expanding its smart home lineup with the Tapo C245D, a new indoor security camera built around a simple idea: a single lens can miss what a second lens can catch. By combining two independently usable “eyes” in one device, the Tapo C245D aims to watch more of a room at the same time, reduce blind spots, and deliver clearer detail when something important happens.

At the heart of the Tapo C245D is a dual-lens setup that pairs a wide-angle camera with a telephoto camera. The wide-angle lens (3.1 mm) is designed for overall room awareness and offers a 122-degree field of view, while the telephoto lens (6 mm) is intended to zoom in and capture finer details. Both lenses record in 2K resolution at 2304×1296 pixels, giving you sharper footage than standard 1080p cameras—useful for identifying faces, pets, or other motion in the home.

One of the standout features is Synchronized Smart Tracking. When the fixed wide-angle lens spots movement—such as a person, pet, or vehicle—the motorized telephoto module can automatically pan toward the action and track it. This two-step approach is meant to keep you informed about what’s happening across the room while still letting the camera focus on the most relevant subject.

For manual control and broader coverage, the camera supports up to 340 degrees of panning and 70 degrees of tilting, which allows near 360-degree viewing of an indoor space. There’s also digital zoom up to 10.8x, and the companion app lets you tap a specific area to quickly focus attention where you want it.

Home monitoring doesn’t stop when the lights go out. The Tapo C245D includes infrared night vision rated up to 12 meters, helping it capture activity in dark rooms or during overnight hours. It also features two-way audio with noise cancellation, making it easier to communicate clearly—whether you’re checking in on family members, calming a pet, or responding to unexpected motion alerts.

TP-Link also includes AI-based detection designed to recognize different types of events, including people, pets, vehicles, and even crying babies. Instead of being flooded with generic motion notifications, users can choose which detections should trigger push alerts in the Tapo app, helping keep notifications more relevant.

When it comes to video storage, the Tapo C245D supports local recording via microSD card up to 512 GB. For those who prefer cloud features, TP-Link also offers an optional paid Tapo Care subscription, which can include perks like up to 30 days of video clip history and encrypted cloud backups.

The camera is designed to fit into popular smart home setups, with compatibility for Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings. Pricing is set at 59.95 Euro, positioning it as a relatively affordable option for anyone who wants a feature-rich indoor security camera with dual-lens coverage and smart tracking.
