TikTok is stepping up its game for songwriters with fresh features designed to showcase their musical talents. Currently in beta, these updates include a “Songwriter” label and a dedicated profile tab, offering songwriters a new way to promote themselves and attract potential clients.
For now, access is limited to a select group of publishing partners and songwriters, with others invited to join a waitlist to get in on the action. This initiative stems from TikTok’s efforts to better understand the needs of songwriters, having surveyed over 870 and conducted numerous interviews. An independent study highlighted that over half of these creatives turn to social media for exposure, with TikTok being a key platform.
TikTok’s Global Head of Music Publishing Licensing and Partnership expressed a strong commitment to empowering songwriters, emphasizing the platform’s unique ability to let them blend their musical and personal narratives, thereby boosting their profiles.
While Spotify has long offered features for songwriters to shine, and Tidal provides tools for tracking royalties, TikTok remains a powerful platform for music discovery and artist promotion. Despite shutting down its TikTok Music streaming service last year, it continues to support artists with tools like TikTok for Artists, helping them track their music campaigns and engage with their audience effectively.
