Threads Introduces Independent Hidden Words Management and Time Limit Features

Threads, Meta’s contender in the social media arena against X, has introduced a distinct Hidden Words feature, allowing users to customize their experience more freely on the platform. Unlike before, this new setting operates independently from Instagram, enabling users to filter out unwanted words, phrases, or emojis from their feeds, searches, profiles, and replies exclusively on Threads.

Previously linked to Instagram, the Hidden Words feature applied the same filters across both platforms. Now, with separate customization options, Threads users can manage their content preferences without affecting their Instagram experience.

In addition to this change, Threads now offers the option to set expiration dates on filters. If there are certain words, phrases, or emojis you’d rather not see temporarily, you can choose to “snooze” them for up to 30 days. This is particularly useful if, for instance, you’re avoiding spoilers for a TV show but plan to catch up later and want to re-engage with related content.

This update follows closely after Threads began testing a dedicated direct message inbox separate from Instagram’s. Such advancements indicate Meta’s intention to establish Threads as a standalone entity, offering features and functionalities distinct from Instagram.

As Threads vies for a competitive edge over X, it continues to roll out a variety of new features. Recently, users gained the ability to view posts from others on the fediverse in a dedicated feed and to search for fediverse users directly within Threads. Additionally, spoiler text is being tested, and creators now have the capability to share links and track clicks via their Threads profiles.

Overall, these developments highlight Threads’ commitment to enhancing user experience and carving out its own niche in the social networking landscape.
