The Planet Crafter

The Planet Crafter Blasts Onto Consoles This July

The Planet Crafter is officially heading to consoles, bringing its relaxing sci-fi survival and terraforming adventure to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on July 21.

Indie studio Miju Games confirmed that its popular sandbox survival game will soon reach a wider audience after finding major success on PC. The Planet Crafter first entered early access on Steam in 2022 before launching in full in 2024, where it built a strong community of players drawn to its peaceful but challenging approach to survival.

Miju Games co-founders Amélie and Brice celebrated the console announcement by reflecting on the game’s journey, noting that the project has grown from a small indie effort into a hit played by millions of terraformers. With a team of seven developers, the studio is now preparing to bring the experience to console players for the first time.

The Planet Crafter sends players to a hostile alien world with one clear mission: transform it into a planet fit for human life. Instead of fighting monsters or engaging in combat, players must survive the environment itself. Oxygen, thirst, temperature, and health all matter as you explore, gather resources, craft equipment, and build the tools needed to reshape an entire planet.

At the start, the world is barren and dangerous. Players must collect minerals, construct a base, and create machines that can heat the planet, increase atmospheric pressure, and produce breathable oxygen. As the terraforming process advances, the environment begins to change in visible and rewarding ways. Empty landscapes gradually become greener, moss begins to spread, insects appear, and eventually forests and animals can emerge.

Base building is a major part of the experience. Players can create shelters to protect themselves from the harsh conditions, expand their living space, and unlock new building tiers that make deeper exploration possible. Crafting also plays a key role, allowing players to create tools, equipment, food, and machines essential for long-term survival.

Exploration adds another layer to The Planet Crafter. The alien world is filled with mysteries, including ruins and old shipwrecks that may contain valuable resources and rare discoveries. Procedurally generated shipwrecks offer fresh opportunities to find loot, making each journey feel rewarding.

The game can be played solo or with friends through online co-op for up to eight players. Whether you want a quiet personal survival experience or a shared terraforming project with a group, The Planet Crafter is designed to support both styles of play.

One of the game’s biggest appeals is its non-violent approach. There are no enemies to defeat in the traditional sense. Instead, the challenge comes from managing the harsh environment, planning your expansion, and steadily turning an unlivable planet into a thriving paradise. This makes it a strong choice for players who enjoy survival games, crafting games, base building, and exploration without constant combat pressure.

The Planet Crafter also includes adjustable difficulty options, letting players choose anything from a relaxed experience to a more demanding survival challenge. Starting presets allow for different playthroughs, while creative mode gives players the freedom to build and terraform without the usual limitations.

Key features include solo and online co-op survival, resource gathering, crafting, base building, planetary terraforming, environmental transformation, DNA-based creature creation, procedurally generated shipwrecks, adjustable difficulty, and a peaceful sci-fi survival experience focused on exploration and creation.

With its console release on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 set for July 21, The Planet Crafter is ready to introduce a new wave of players to its unique blend of survival, crafting, and planet-wide transformation. For fans of sandbox games and relaxing science fiction adventures, this could be one of the most interesting console releases to watch.
