Xbox and Owlcat Games have officially narrowed down the release plans for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, confirming that the third-person action RPG is targeting a Spring 2027 launch window. The update arrived during the March 26 Xbox Partner Preview, giving fans of The Expanse universe a clearer idea of when they’ll be able to step into its next big story-driven adventure.
Alongside the release window, the teams also announced a closed beta for Xbox Series X|S that begins on April 22, 2026. While some players may hope for an open test, this beta is designed to be more limited and geared toward dedicated supporters.
The closed beta won’t be available to everyone. Access is tied to players who back the project by purchasing either the Miller’s Pack or the Collector’s Edition through the game’s official site. According to the developers, the beta will run from April 22, 2026 all the way up to the full launch, offering participants an extended window to experience a substantial slice of the game as development continues.
As for what you’ll actually play, the beta includes a full mission that kicks off with the player character and their twin returning to Pinkwater 4 station. The set-up follows their escape from Eros in a stolen ship, hinting at the kind of high-stakes survival, political tension, and hard choices that fans associate with the setting.
Newly shared details also dig deeper into gameplay, especially combat options and squad support. Owlcat says players can expect a variety of firearms, including shotguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, pistols, and submachine guns. On top of traditional weapons, the game leans into tactical tools and sci-fi gadgets, such as scanners for situational awareness, drones for support, and zero-gravity grenades that play into the series’ spacebound nature.
One of the more interesting additions highlighted in the update is an Exploit system. This feature is designed to make companions more than just extra guns in a firefight, allowing squadmates to trigger environmental or tactical takedowns that can help control crowds and turn dangerous encounters in your favor.
The latest trailer also introduces additional members of the crew. Regina and Teo were revealed alongside previously known characters like Zafar and Michael, while the player character’s twin remains central to the game’s core premise. It’s a crew-focused approach that suggests relationships, teamwork, and character interplay will be just as important as firepower.
With a Spring 2027 release target, a closed beta starting April 22, 2026, and confirmed support across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is shaping up to be a major sci-fi RPG to watch—especially for players who want a squad-based action experience grounded in a gritty, story-rich universe. It will also support Xbox Play Anywhere and is set to be available day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, expanding how and where players can jump into the fight.
