Tesla’s strategy, as revealed by Max de Zegher, the company’s Head of Charging, involves marking “Property of Tesla Motors” within the copper elements of the cables right from the production phase. This serves as a clear identifier, deterring thieves who often attempt to sell the copper to recycling firms. Zegher emphasized that this method is cost-effective and seamless in maintaining the smooth operation of services and the overall customer experience.

Beyond the stamping initiative, Tesla is exploring additional preventative measures, such as covering the Supercharger cords with materials resistant to cutting.
