Tesla Lags Behind in Used Car Rankings, Highlighting the Endurance of Classic Brands

The batteries and drive motors often require replacement, leading to significant costs. Headlight failures and defects in the infotainment system are also relatively common. An analyst from Consumer Reports mentioned that the poor ranking was not unexpected since Tesla is still a relatively young brand, and the Model S was its first self-produced electric car.

Data from Statista shows that the Tesla Model Y was the world’s best-selling car in 2023, with 1.2 million units sold. Despite this, traditional brands seem to be preferred when it comes to buying used cars. Interestingly, newer Tesla models like the Model 3 and Model Y have performed better in the new car category. However, these models also displayed some weaknesses in the J.D. Power study on initial quality, performing worse compared to the previous year.
