New Snapdragon X series processor, the X1P-42-100, is expected to power affordable laptops priced under $800. The 8-core X Plus CPU, featuring a significantly less capable GPU compared to others in the same lineup, is aimed at making laptops more accessible without compromising on core performance.
In a Q3 2024 earnings call, Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm’s CEO and president, announced the company’s plans to introduce new Snapdragon X series laptops priced as low as $700. This new 8-core Snapdragon X Plus processor, set to be unveiled at IFA on September 4, has been leaked ahead of its official release.
While this new processor has a less powerful GPU with a maximum compute performance of 1.7 TFLOPS compared to the top-of-the-line Snapdragon X Elite CPUs, which boast up to 4.6 TFLOPS, it still meets key performance standards. The AI performance of the new processor is on par with others in the lineup, offering 45 TOPS, which meets the 40 TOPS NPU requirement for the Copilot+ PC program.
Additionally, the leaked information reveals that the Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 will support up to three external displays at 4K 60 Hz, making it a versatile choice for various computing needs. Although the specific laptop models featuring this new processor have not been announced yet, it is expected that more details will be revealed during the official livestream on September 4.
