Tesla has officially opened orders for the 2025 Model Y in the United States, aligning with previous rumors. The base price is set at $59,990 before tax credits and incentives, with Full Self-Driving (FSD) included, making it a compelling option for those in the market for a new electric vehicle in 2025. The anticipated release date is March, coinciding with the launch in China and Europe. The new model is available as a Launch Series Long Range AWD edition, featuring exclusive design elements and complimentary FSD, which accounts for the price increase.
Tesla has announced impressive range capabilities for the Model Y. It can achieve up to 320 miles with the standard 19-inch Crossflow wheels and around 303 miles with the premium 20-inch Helix wheels. These figures are derived from Tesla’s rigorous internal testing, which often surpasses the EPA standards, hinting at potential improvements in future EPA assessments. For comparison, the all-wheel-drive version in the U.S. might closely match the current rear-wheel-drive version’s EPA range of 337 miles.
The enhancements in the Model Y’s range are attributed to a redesigned exterior for better aerodynamics, rather than changes to the battery itself. Whether the new model uses Tesla’s 4680 battery cells remains to be seen.
The 2025 Model Y Launch Edition in the U.S. starts at $52,490 after tax credits. Tesla offers a $699 monthly lease or a purchase price of $59,990 before tax credits. This pricing is $4,000 more than the current all-wheel-drive version, even without considering the bundled FSD. However, this cost includes distinctive badging and upgraded interior materials, pointing to a more exclusive offering.
The Model Y Juniper is anticipated to qualify for federal tax credits, prompting the swift release of this single trim ahead of schedule. Early adopters could benefit from a $7,500 tax credit, though political changes in the U.S. could put future subsidies at risk. While a new administration could suspend or eliminate these credits, Tesla appears prepared to offer additional incentives, such as a $599 monthly lease reflecting potential “gas savings” and other incentives approximating the federal tax credit value.
Several new specifications and design elements set the 2025 Model Y apart from its predecessor. These include a remarkable 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.1 seconds, 250 kW charging capacity allowing for 154 miles of range in just 15 minutes, and a new infotainment system with a 15.4-inch central display complemented by an 8-inch rear display. Additional enhancements include updated wheels, brakes, suspension, and more premium interior features, making the ride smoother and more luxurious.
Tesla has also introduced this updated model in Europe, debuting an AWD Launch Series Maximum Range version that boasts a WLTP range of 352 miles, surpassing the current RWD range leader. This version might feature the much-discussed larger battery, though direct comparisons to the U.S. model await official EPA evaluations.
