Taiwan Optics Boom as Lumentum Signals Supply Crunch

Taiwan Optical Networking Suppliers See Record Sales as AI Data Center Demand Surges

Taiwan’s optical networking supply chain is gaining major momentum as global demand for high-speed connectivity continues to accelerate. In September and the third quarter of 2026, several Taiwanese optical component suppliers reported strong revenue growth, driven largely by the rapid expansion of AI data centers.

Companies including EZconn and LuxNet delivered record monthly sales, highlighting the growing need for advanced optical networking products that can support massive data transmission inside modern AI infrastructure. As artificial intelligence workloads become larger and more complex, data centers require faster, more reliable connections between servers, storage systems, and networking equipment. This has placed optical components at the center of the next wave of data center investment.

The surge in revenue reflects a broader industry trend: AI data centers are not only increasing demand for advanced chips and servers but also for the networking technologies that allow those systems to operate efficiently. High-speed optical modules, connectors, and related components are becoming essential for handling the enormous bandwidth requirements of AI training and inference.

The strong performance from Taiwanese suppliers also comes at a time when the global optical component market is facing tightening supply. US-based optical component maker Lumentum has warned that its production capacity is already booked into early 2029. The company also expects supply shortages to continue for several years, suggesting that demand is far outpacing available manufacturing capacity.

This capacity crunch could benefit suppliers in Taiwan, especially those capable of scaling production and meeting the technical requirements of next-generation data centers. With cloud service providers, AI companies, and enterprise data center operators racing to upgrade infrastructure, optical networking suppliers may continue to see elevated order volumes.

The latest revenue results from EZconn and LuxNet show how quickly the market is shifting. What was once a specialized segment of the networking industry is now becoming a critical foundation for AI growth. As data centers evolve to support faster computing and larger AI models, optical networking technology is expected to remain one of the key areas of investment.

If current trends continue, Taiwan’s optical networking sector could remain a major beneficiary of the global AI infrastructure boom. Strong third-quarter results, record monthly sales, and ongoing supply shortages all point to sustained demand for high-speed connectivity solutions well into the coming years.
