Tag Heuer’s next Connected smartwatch is finally on the calendar. After more than three years with the Connected Calibre E4, the luxury watchmaker has confirmed a brand-new flagship unveiling for Wednesday, October 8. While the teaser keeps specifics under wraps, all signs point to a true successor that prioritizes power, brightness, and premium tech.
Two upgrades are shaping up to be headline features. First, a major leap in performance is expected with a move away from the aging Snapdragon Wear 4100+ to Qualcomm’s newer Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 platform. Built on a 4 nm process, this chip is designed for better efficiency and smoother performance, and it supports satellite connectivity—opening the door to new safety and communication features if implemented.
Even more intriguing is the display. Tag Heuer has been working with AU Optronics on microLED panels for smartwatches, and the upcoming model—likely to be called Connected Calibre E5—could become one of the first wearables to adopt this technology. MicroLED has recently appeared on the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro, where it delivers eye-searing brightness around 4,500 nits, compared to roughly 3,000 nits on typical AMOLED versions. For users, that kind of luminance means exceptional outdoor visibility, crisp always-on readability, and punchy contrast without sacrificing efficiency. The trade-off is cost: a microLED panel could nudge the price higher, in true Tag Heuer fashion.
What to watch for on launch day:
– A next-gen Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 chipset promising faster, more efficient performance and potential satellite features
– A microLED display with class-leading brightness for superior sunlight legibility and an elevated always-on experience
– A refined design and premium build befitting Tag Heuer’s Connected series
– Possible changes in pricing tied to cutting-edge display tech
The current Connected generation arrived back in February 2022, so a refreshed flagship is overdue. If the rumors pan out, Tag Heuer’s upcoming model won’t just be an upgrade—it could set a new bar for luxury smartwatches with microLED brilliance and modern silicon. All will be revealed on October 8.
