ChatGPT just got a lot more practical. OpenAI has opened the door for third-party apps to live inside the chatbot, and Spotify is one of the most useful early integrations. Mention Spotify in a prompt and you’ll see an option to connect your account so ChatGPT can whip up playlists, recommend songs and podcasts, and even manage playback based on your taste.
Once you connect your Spotify account using the “Use Spotify for this answer” button, the assistant can reference your likes and listening history to personalize suggestions. Ask for upbeat indie tracks for a morning run, a low-fi mix for late-night studying, or a road-trip playlist that runs exactly three hours. You can get specific, too: request songs from only your most-played artists, prioritize a favorite genre, or build a themed mix—like a dog-walking playlist where every track includes the word “Dog” in the title. Tap any suggestion to jump straight into the Spotify app to listen or watch.
Beyond recommendations, ChatGPT can take actions inside Spotify on your behalf:
– Control playback
– Add or remove items from your library
– Create, edit, and follow private playlists
– Manage who you follow
Connecting your account means agreeing to Spotify’s app privacy terms. You’re granting access to data such as what you play, what’s saved in your library, and who you follow, as well as your IP address and approximate location. As with any third-party connection, there’s a small risk if the service experiences a security breach. You can disconnect your Spotify account from ChatGPT at any time. Spotify also notes it does not share creators’ content with OpenAI for training; music, podcasts, and other media on the platform remain protected.
The integration is available in English across 145 countries for ChatGPT Free, Plus, and Pro users on both web and mobile. It works for free and premium Spotify accounts, though premium members can expect a more tailored experience.
Spotify isn’t alone. Other apps now available inside ChatGPT include Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, and Zillow. That means you can do things like ask Coursera to teach you a topic step-by-step or have Zillow pull apartments in your area within a set budget—all without leaving the chat.
If you’ve been looking for an easy way to create smart, personalized playlists or discover new music and podcasts, connecting Spotify to ChatGPT is a fast, flexible, and surprisingly fun place to start. Try prompts like:
– Build a 90-minute high-energy workout playlist based on my recent listens
– Recommend five new indie artists similar to my top artists, then add their most-streamed songs to a new playlist
– Create a road-trip mix with 70s rock and modern synth-pop, no explicit lyrics
– Queue calm podcasts for a 30-minute wind-down routine tonight
With ChatGPT’s app integrations, your music discovery, learning, travel planning, and design work can all happen in one conversation.
