Suunto Enhances Smartwatch Experience with Latest Update

Owners of select Suunto smartwatches can now enjoy a suite of new features and improvements as the renowned fitness brand has rolled out a significant software update. The update, dubbed version 2.33.12, is tailor-made for the Suunto Race, Vertical, and 9 Peak Pro models, equipping these devices with a variety of enhancements designed to bolster the user experience.

The update introduces three new watch faces, providing users more options to customize the look of their wearables. In addition, smart activity reminders have been integrated to prompt users to either resume or terminate their activity sessions should an abnormal interruption in speed be detected. The Suunto Vertical and Race models gain a convenient “Map ruler” feature that enables users to measure the distance to a targeted location via a straight line on the map. Moreover, a high-contrast map option is now available, which greatly improves readability, particularly on the always-on display mode.

Upgrades to the trio of smartwatches include the first stage of emoji support, enhancing communication and notifications. Users will also notice refined lap information within activity summaries and an upgraded sleep tracking function for more accurate rest analysis. Additionally, the company has rectified issues within the training widget as well as activity heart rate monitoring to ensure more reliable performance.

Exclusive to the Race model, the update polishes the raise-to-wake functionality and corrects errors associated with the Running Estimate and Lactate metrics. Beyond these fixes, Suunto has integrated several new applications into its ecosystem, expanding functionality through apps such as Stryd, Pace Zone Duration, Ultra Walking, and Race Pacer.

The smartwatch software update 2.33.12 is available over the air (OTA), with automatic updates being pushed to compatible devices. Provided the smartwatch has a minimum battery level of 50%, the update will be installed overnight, ensuring minimal disruption to the user. For those who prefer to manually update their device, the process can be initiated by navigating to the Settings, selecting General, and then choosing the Software Update option.

Suunto aims to adopt a quarterly release cycle throughout 2024, subject to the on-schedule completion of development work. This would ensure that users receive regular updates with new features and fixes, enhancing the longevity and enjoyment of their smartwatch.

As the tech world continually evolves, such updates confirm Suunto’s commitment to providing its users with a seamless and state-of-the-art smartwatch experience.
