Wargaming has announced the closure of Steel Hunters, their PvPvE mech action game, a mere few months after its early access launch in April on Steam. Despite being introduced as a “polished foundation,” the game is now set to shut down.
In a heartfelt message, the team shared their difficult decision, explaining that continued development is unsustainable despite the passionate support from players. This news undoubtedly comes as a disappointment to fans who had high hopes for the game.
Steel Hunters is expected to become unplayable by early October, marking an end to its short run. As the servers prepare to wind down, the developers have outlined a few parting activities:
– Custom Games: Soon, players will be able to set up custom matches and enjoy last moments with friends, creating cherished memories in the game.
– All Hunters Unlocked: In appreciation of player dedication, every Hunter character will be unlocked for all users, including some that have never been seen before. Players are encouraged to explore and enjoy these new additions.
– Farewell Tournament: A goodbye tournament is being organized to honor the competitive spirit and vibrant community. More details will be available on their Discord server.
Steel Hunters peaked shortly after its launch, reaching about 4,479 concurrent players. However, the numbers swiftly declined, dropping below 1,000 within weeks and currently under 100 players.
While the cancellation isn’t as swift and infamous as Sony’s multiplayer hero shooter incident, it reflects a similar trajectory of an anticipated game struggling to retain its player base.
