SteamOS Receives a Slew of Enhancements with Fresh Updates for the Steam Deck Lineup

SteamOS, the dedicated operating system for Steam Deck devices, has been updated to version 3.5.15, with Valve introducing a host of improvements and bug fixes. The recent upgrades enhance the gaming experience across all versions of the Steam Deck, including the newer Steam Deck OLED models.

Committed to routinely refining SteamOS, Valve has been working on a slew of updates, now available under its Preview program. While stable updates haven’t been distributed to the Steam Deck in the past few weeks, Valve has released SteamOS 3.5.14 which encompasses performance upgrades for ray-traced reflections in the game Persona 3 Reload and has slightly improved corner tracking for OLED trackpads. Notably, the update also addresses a couple of crash scenarios—a potential crash when connecting to an HDR display and a rare crash upon application exit.

Additionally, updates to the Client within the same timeframe have focused on fixing issues with popup menus and dialogues, including a correction where the Gyro enable button was not functioning properly. Valve has introduced user experience refinements allowing the use of controllers to continue or dismiss informational panels relating to controller support prior to launching a game. Gyro Calibration can now be found quickly in the controller configuration settings, as well as within the controller layout editor in a newly dedicated section for gyro controls.

Other tweaks have been implemented to address the sequencing of game news in the activity feed and to eliminate redundant friend counters on game displays. For increased privacy during gameplay, an icon has been added that signifies when the user’s in-game status is set to private; this icon will appear on the friends list and will only be visible to the user.

Furthermore, the latest SteamOS 3.5.15 update promises enhanced GPU crash handling and HDR gamut mapping particularly for the OLED version of the Deck, striving to elevate visual performance. While it’s unclear when these improvements will be fully integrated into the stable release, the ongoing developments signal Valve’s commitment to refining the gaming experience on the Steam Deck.
