Valve Raises Steam Deck OLED Prices as Hardware Costs Climb
Valve has increased the price of its Steam Deck OLED handheld gaming PC, citing rising component costs and ongoing global logistics challenges across the tech industry.
The company made it clear that the Steam Deck hardware itself has not changed. Instead, the higher prices are a response to the current market conditions affecting manufacturing, parts, shipping, and supply chains.
The updated Steam Deck OLED pricing is now:
Steam Deck OLED 512GB: was $549, now $789
Steam Deck OLED 1TB: was $649, now $949
The price jump is significant, especially for players who viewed the Steam Deck as one of the most affordable and convenient ways to enter PC gaming. Since launch, the handheld has built a strong reputation among PC gamers and console players alike thanks to its portable design, large game library, and simple user experience.
The good news for buyers is that Valve also confirmed the Steam Deck OLED is back in stock. However, the new pricing changes the competitive picture for the handheld gaming market.
At $789, the Steam Deck OLED 512GB now costs more than some rival handheld gaming PCs, including the ROG Ally, which is commonly priced around $599. Meanwhile, the Steam Deck OLED 1TB model now sits close to the price range of more premium handhelds such as the ROG Ally X, which is priced around $999.
Until now, Valve had kept Steam Deck pricing stable. The original LCD model launched as a budget-friendly way to enjoy PC games on the go, and the OLED version improved the experience with a better display, longer battery life, and other refinements without previously increasing prices in this way.
Valve has already ended production of the original LCD Steam Deck model, shifting focus to the OLED lineup. The company has also hinted at a future Steam Deck 2, but fans should not expect yearly hardware refreshes. Valve has said the next major Steam Deck will need to deliver a true generational leap before it arrives.
For now, the Steam Deck OLED remains one of the most recognizable handheld gaming PCs on the market, but its new price may make buyers compare it more closely with competing devices before making a purchase.
