Starbound Set to Launch on Xbox After a Decade-Long Wait

Indie game developer Chucklefish has exciting news for Xbox enthusiasts: Starbound is finally making its way to Xbox consoles. This announcement comes more than a decade after the team first hinted at a console version of the game.

The highly anticipated release of Starbound on Xbox is imminent, and to ensure a smooth launch, a playtest is currently in progress. This playtest aims to gather crucial feedback on aspects such as Xbox controls, user interface (UI), and user experience (UX). Chucklefish expressed their enthusiasm by stating, “It’s been a long journey, but we’re thrilled to announce that Starbound is nearly ready for its Xbox debut! Your feedback during the Xbox Insider playtest will be invaluable in helping us make final adjustments.”

Starbound initially launched in early access beta back in 2013 and saw its full release in July 2016 on Windows PC through Steam. Despite its popularity and the fact that its predecessor, Terraria, has been ported to nearly every platform, Starbound has yet to make its way to consoles—until now.

The feedback Chucklefish is seeking from the Xbox playtest includes essential elements like button mapping, which is crucial for sandbox games on consoles, as well as balance adjustments specifically tailored for the console version.

The Starbound playtest for Xbox is available exclusively for Xbox Insiders and will run until September 4th. Xbox players eager to participate can gain access through the Xbox Insider Program by using the Insider Hub app available on the Xbox Store.
