Gamers who enjoy streaming may soon have more flexibility with new subscription options from Microsoft. A recent leak suggests that the tech giant could introduce standalone Xbox Cloud Gaming plans, letting players access certain third-party and Xbox-exclusive games through specific paid tiers.
Currently, gamers need to subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate to enjoy Xbox Cloud Gaming features. However, Microsoft might soon offer alternatives for those who find the current option too expensive or prefer a focus on streaming. A leak from Better xCloud has revealed intriguing code pointing to four potential new subscription tiers.
These tiers, referred to by codenames like Callisto, Dia, Europa, and Ferdinand, could offer diverse gaming experiences. Callisto appears to be the most premium option, while Ferdinand is likely designed for budget-conscious gamers. Excitingly, some popular games like GTA 5 might only be part of select plans, whereas titles such as Genshin Impact and Doom 64 would be available across all tiers. Higher tiers might also offer perks like enhanced resolution.
Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming is a key component of its strategy to make gaming accessible across multiple devices. Xbox Insider testers on desktops and laptops can now stream an expanding list of titles through the Xbox PC app. Additionally, the Play Anywhere program allows players to continue their gaming journey seamlessly across consoles and handheld PCs.
The company seems to be gradually shifting focus from traditional consoles like the Xbox Series X|S, highlighting products like the ROG Xbox Ally handheld. There’s even buzz about a Windows-based console in 2027, sparking discussions about backward compatibility. Despite uncertainties, Phil Spencer has assured players that older console-locked Xbox games won’t be abandoned.
