A longer version of the Tesla Model Y has been spotted on the streets of China, fueling speculation that this could be the anticipated six-seat Model Y L, hinted to release this fall. The vehicle was heavily camouflaged, particularly around its rear, front, and the C-pillar, sparking curiosity about the design changes possibly aimed at providing more headroom for a third row of seats. Notably, the rear appears bulkier than the current Model Y, suggesting a more spacious interior.
Despite Tesla’s efforts to conceal much of the vehicle, leaks from a local vehicle certification database have already outlined its new dimensions. The six-seat Model Y will reportedly be seven inches longer, with a six-inch extended wheelbase and nearly two inches taller. This means it should offer more comfort for passengers in the back compared to the existing seven-seater version that shares space with the trunk.
The camouflage doesn’t reveal much about the potential third row’s size or configuration. Observers point to the Model X six-seat version for inspiration, which features four captain chairs and two regular seats, making access to the third row more straightforward thanks to its unique door design.
There’s chatter about this new Model Y variant appearing outside of China, and Tesla representatives have hinted at a more spacious version possibly coming to the US soon, potentially a seven-seater with an extended wheelbase. Enthusiasts and potential buyers will be eager to see how these developments unfold.
