Revamped Tesla Model Y: Foldable Seats and Enhanced Battery for a Versatile 3-Row SUV

Tesla enthusiasts have been dreaming of a genuine three-row SUV, and while the company isn’t delivering exactly that, it has something intriguing up its sleeve: the Model Y L. This upcoming version of the Model Y isn’t just adding child seats in the trunk but offers a more thoughtful design with a longer wheelbase and increased height, providing ample leg space and headroom.

The Model Y L promises a unique seating arrangement, different from anything Tesla has released before. With four captain chairs in the first two rows and two separate seats in the third row, this configuration is set to enhance comfort. Unlike the Model X, where the third row consists of bench-like seats, the Model Y L’s seats are designed for better individual comfort. The second row features motorized adjustments for customizable spacing, and with ventilated seating, passenger comfort takes center stage.

Excitingly, these changes aren’t just about seating. The Model Y L will reportedly come with an upgraded battery with up to 90 kWh capacity, marking a significant improvement. The ride promises to be smoother too, thanks to dynamic electromagnetic suspension, reinforcing its position as a luxury SUV.

But what about cargo space? Tesla has faced challenges fitting both passengers and cargo into its SUVs. However, the Model Y L seems to be heading in a promising direction. Unlike the Model X, where only the third-row folds, there’s speculation that all rear seats in the Model Y L will fold flat, transforming the vehicle into a true all-purpose SUV.

Grace Tao Lin, a Tesla executive, hinted at this versatility by describing the Model Y L as a “full-scene 6-seat luxury SUV,” suggesting it’s designed to handle various needs. The rumored motorized second-row only adds to these possibilities, allowing for both passenger comfort and practical cargo space.

Tesla already allows the current Model Y to fold its back seats with ease, and the same could be true for the Model Y L, offering flexibility for both passengers and cargo. If all four rear seats fold flat automatically, it would be a major advancement in Tesla’s SUV lineup, allowing for activities like fitting a mattress for those impromptu road trip adventures.

So, while it may not be a traditional three-row SUV, the Tesla Model Y L is shaping up to be a versatile and luxurious addition to Tesla’s lineup.
