Sony is rolling out an exciting new update for Bravia TVs, bringing them directly to Android TV 14. This significant upgrade, leaping from Android 10 or 11, introduces features like enhanced performance for low-RAM devices, new power modes, and picture-in-picture functionality. The update is currently targeting older models with Realtek chipsets.
Several users have already reported receiving the update. For instance, one user found their Bravia X75L, previously on Android TV 11, now upgraded to Android 14. A comprehensive list of the first-wave models includes Bravia 2, X77L, X75L, and many more. You can check your model’s eligibility by looking at the list provided.
The upgrade also enhances security, updating the patch level to June 2025. Interestingly, Sony has chosen to skip Android TV 12, jumping straight to Android 14; Android TV 13 was primarily for developers.
The rollout is happening in phases, and affected users will receive notifications once their TV is eligible. However, you can manually check for the update in the system settings. The upgrade will eventually reach Sony’s premium 2025 TV lineup, which still runs on Android 12.
Sony TVs, marketed with the Google TV interface, continue to operate on the Android platform underneath. This update brings promising advancements, ushering in a new era of performance and features for older Bravia models. If your TV fits the description, keep an eye out—you might be next in line for this welcome transformation.
