Qualcomm’s Snapdragon C was expected to give Windows laptop makers a stronger weapon against Apple’s growing lead in efficient notebook chips. However, a new rumor suggests the chipset may not be nearly powerful enough to challenge the A18 Pro, especially in single-core performance, battery-friendly computing, and everyday responsiveness.
According to the rumor shared by @lafaiel, the Snapdragon C reportedly features an 8-core CPU setup. On paper, that may sound competitive, but the details are less encouraging. The claim suggests these cores may be boosted versions of Qualcomm’s Kryo 670 cores, which were previously used in mid-range mobile chipsets such as the Snapdragon 778G and Snapdragon 780G.
Those chips were solid for smartphones in their time, especially for basic tasks, browsing, media playback, and casual use. But powering a modern Windows 11 notebook is a much bigger challenge. If Snapdragon C is truly based on older mid-range CPU technology, it could struggle to meet those expectations.
The most concerning part of the rumor is the alleged Geekbench performance. The Snapdragon C is claimed to score below 1,200 points in single-core testing. If true, that would put it far behind Apple’s A18 Pro, which can reportedly reach close to three times that result in single-core performance.
Single-core speed still matters a lot in laptops. Many everyday tasks, including opening apps, navigating the operating system, loading web pages, and handling office work, often depend heavily on single-threaded performance. A large gap in this area could make the MacBook Neo feel noticeably faster than Snapdragon C-powered Windows notebooks.
The rumor goes even further, claiming that the Snapdragon C’s full 8-core multi-core score may be lower than the A18 Pro’s single-core result. If that detail proves accurate, it would be a major setback for Qualcomm’s attempt to compete in the affordable laptop market.
