Smart Feeder Outage Leaves Thousands of Hungry Pets Waiting for Dinner

Petlibro Outage Leaves Some Smart Pet Feeders, Fountains, and Litter Boxes Offline

Petlibro is working to restore service after a system outage disrupted several of its connected pet care devices, leaving some owners unable to rely on scheduled feeding, water pumping, and automatic litter box cleaning.

The outage began on Tuesday, according to user reports, and affected parts of the Petlibro app and cloud-connected services. Some pet owners said their smart feeders went offline or failed to dispense meals on schedule, raising concerns for people who were away from home and counting on the devices to care for their pets.

Petlibro said that schedules and settings stored locally on its devices should continue to operate during the service disruption. However, reports from customers suggest that this has not been the case for everyone. Some users said RFID feeders and Granary smart feeders missed scheduled meals, while certain Dockstream water fountains stopped pumping water. Others reported that Luma automatic litter boxes did not complete scheduled cleaning cycles.

The issue has been especially stressful for pet owners who depend on automated devices while at work, traveling, or away from home for long periods. Smart feeders and fountains are designed to provide peace of mind, but outages like this highlight the risks of relying fully on connected pet care products without a backup plan.

In addition to missed tasks, some customers reported trouble using the Petlibro app. Several users said they were unable to reconnect their devices after the outage began, while others found that devices appeared offline even when powered on and connected to Wi-Fi.

Petlibro acknowledged the problem on Tuesday, describing it as a service issue affecting some app functions. The company said it was working to restore affected features gradually.

By Wednesday afternoon, Petlibro said much of its service had been restored and that work was continuing to bring the app fully back online. Some users later reported that their feeders, fountains, or litter boxes had started working again. Others, however, said they were still having problems reconnecting devices or getting scheduled functions to run properly.

The company has not yet shared a detailed explanation of what caused the outage.

For now, affected pet owners may want to check their Petlibro devices manually, confirm whether scheduled meals have been dispensed, and make sure pets have access to food and fresh water. Anyone away from home may need to ask a friend, family member, or neighbor to check on their pets until the service is fully stable.

The outage is a reminder that even convenient smart pet devices can fail when app or cloud services go down. While automated feeders, water fountains, and litter boxes can make pet care easier, owners should consider backup food and water options, especially when leaving pets unattended for extended periods.
