Significant Ray Tracing Boost Expected with Dimensity 9500 GPU Debut

A recent leak on Weibo has stirred excitement about the upcoming Dimensity 9500, set to launch in September 2025. According to the leak, the GPU is expected to deliver remarkable improvements in ray tracing performance, allowing specific gaming titles to exceed 100 FPS.

Previous reports have already highlighted the CPU prowess of the Dimensity 9500, with its new Arm Cortex-X930 core boasting a 49% boost in single-core performance. Now, attention turns to its GPU, known as Drage. Despite earlier Geekbench results showing underwhelming performance—often the case with pre-production models—optimism remains high. This GPU claims to improve power efficiency by 40% compared to the Immortalis-G925 and enhance ray tracing performance by 40% as well.

Currently, only a select few games, including Diablo Immortal, War Thunder, Honour of Kings, and Arena Blackout, support this cutting-edge technology. According to a Geekbench listing, the Dimensity 9500 will feature an Arm Mali-G1-Ultra MC12 GPU, which aligns with Arm’s recent mobile IP rebranding efforts. This GPU contains 12 cores or 24 pipelines, mirroring its predecessor.

In terms of competition, the Dimensity 9500 will face off against Qualcomm’s Adreno 840 and Samsung’s Xclipse 960. While details on the Adreno 840 remain scarce, the Xclipse 960 shows promising early benchmark results. However, the Xclipse GPUs often face challenges due to CPU limitations and thermal issues linked to Samsung Foundry’s SF2 node.

The arrival of the Dimensity 9500 is highly anticipated, promising substantial advancements in both CPU and GPU performance, ready to take on the challenges of the latest gaming and mobile technology.
