Imagine having limitless power at your fingertips, no matter where you are—day or night, rain or shine. That’s exactly what the Shine 2.0 portable wind turbine generator from Aurea Technologies promises. While solar panels have become a popular choice for off-grid charging, they falter when the sun isn’t shining. The Shine 2.0, however, harnesses the wind, ensuring you can stay powered up as long as there’s a breeze.
The second iteration of this innovative device offers some remarkable upgrades over its predecessor. Resembling an elongated egg, the Shine 2.0 isn’t just about looks; it’s packed with enhancements. Requiring wind speeds of at least 8mph (13kph) to start generating power, this portable turbine can charge your phones, laptops, cameras, and more through its USB-C PD port, which supports a maximum output of 75W.
One of the most impressive features of Shine 2.0 is its ability to generate up to 50W of power in optimal wind conditions (28mph or 45kph). Even at the minimum wind speed of 8mph, it still delivers 5W of power. For instance, it can fully charge a laptop in under two hours when operating at maximum wind speed—a substantial improvement over the first generation, which could only muster 40W of power with a 13W USB-A output.
A built-in 12,000mAh lithium-ion battery ensures that you have a power reserve, allowing you to charge your devices even when the wind isn’t blowing. The Shine 2.0 also includes a smart Bluetooth-connected app, enabling users to monitor wind speed, power output, battery level, temperature, and charge time in real-time.
What’s more, Shine 2.0 has broadened its utility to include charging portable power stations. Owners can purchase a USB-C to XT60 connector accessory to plug into power stations that support this feature, adding another layer of versatility to this eco-friendly charger.
Portability and ease of use are crucial, and Shine 2.0 delivers on both fronts. When not in use, it can be folded and easily stowed in a backpack. Weighing just 3lbs (1.3kg) and boasting an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance, it’s engineered for rugged outdoor conditions. It comes with a 3ft collapsible mount, and for those aiming to capture higher wind speeds, a 6ft mount is also available. Grounding it securely is a breeze with the included pegs and guy wires.
Currently available on Kickstarter, the Shine 2.0 retails at $571, but early backers can snag it for as low as $358. Though expected to ship in March 2025, the buzz surrounding this product is already palpable.
Stay ahead of power outages and make the most of the great outdoors with the Shine 2.0—a reliable companion for all your charging needs.
