Sharp’s First Smartwatch Tracks Calories Bite by Bite

Sharp Karada Mate Watch MH-W01 brings calorie and hydration tracking to your wrist

Sharp is stepping into the smartwatch market with the Karada Mate Watch MH-W01, a wearable designed for people who want a clearer picture of their daily health habits. Its standout feature is the ability to estimate calorie intake and fluid consumption, giving users a more practical way to understand how eating and drinking affect their fitness goals throughout the day.

The watch can show a visual comparison between calories consumed and calories burned, making it easier to see whether you are in a calorie surplus or deficit. This could be especially useful for anyone trying to lose weight, build muscle, or simply maintain a healthier routine. Instead of relying only on manual food tracking, the Karada Mate Watch aims to make daily wellness monitoring more immediate and convenient.

Hydration tracking is another key feature. If the watch detects that you have not consumed enough fluids, it can send an alert, encouraging you to drink more water before dehydration becomes an issue. For users with busy schedules, this kind of reminder can be a simple but helpful addition to everyday health management.

Sharp has equipped the smartwatch with a round 1.32-inch OLED display featuring a sharp 466 x 466 pixel resolution. The screen also supports an always-on mode, allowing users to check time, fitness stats, and health information at a glance without needing to wake the display manually.

Inside its 11.9 mm thick case, the Karada Mate Watch includes a range of sensors commonly expected from a modern health-focused smartwatch. These include an accelerometer, GPS module, ambient light sensor, skin temperature sensor, heart rate monitor, and SpO2 sensor for blood oxygen measurement. The watch is also rated for 5 ATM water resistance, meaning it should be suitable for everyday exposure to water and certain fitness activities.

Compatibility should not be a major concern for most users, as the Sharp Karada Mate Watch works with both Apple iPhones and Android smartphones. That broad support makes it more accessible for users who may want a health-tracking smartwatch without switching phone ecosystems.

The Sharp Karada Mate Watch MH-W01 is scheduled to launch in Japan on July 9, 2026. The official price is ¥59,400, which is approximately $370. Sharp has not yet confirmed whether the smartwatch will be released in other markets, but buyers outside Japan may eventually be able to obtain it through import options.

With calorie intake estimation, hydration reminders, GPS, health sensors, and a high-resolution OLED display, the Sharp Karada Mate Watch could appeal to users looking for a smartwatch focused not just on workouts, but on the daily habits that shape long-term health.
