Seiko HDB003 5 Sports Limited Edition Watch Arrives in India for the Brand’s 145th Anniversary
Seiko is celebrating an impressive 145 years of watchmaking with a special new release for collectors and everyday enthusiasts alike. The Japanese watchmaker has introduced the Seiko HDB003 5 Sports limited edition in India, bringing a bold Edo Purple design to one of its most recognizable sports watch lines.
The Seiko HDB003 is part of the brand’s anniversary collection, which includes limited-edition models across several popular Seiko families. This particular 5 Sports model stands out with its vibrant purple dial, classic diver-inspired styling, and global production run limited to 9,999 pieces.
The watch is expected to launch in India in October 2026, although Seiko has not yet confirmed the exact India price or retail availability date. In Japan, the Seiko HDB003 is priced at 63,800 yen, which is approximately $403, and sales are scheduled to begin on October 9.
Design-wise, the Seiko HDB003 stays true to the familiar SKX-inspired look that has made the Seiko 5 Sports series so popular. It features a 42.5 mm stainless steel case, a black unidirectional rotating bezel, and a three-row stainless steel bracelet. The bracelet comes with a three-fold clasp and push-button release, offering a secure and practical fit for daily wear.
The highlight of the watch is undoubtedly its purple dial. Seiko says the color takes inspiration from “Edo-murasaki,” a traditional purple shade associated with clothing from Japan’s Edo period. This gives the watch a strong cultural identity while also making it visually distinct from typical black, blue, or green sports watches.
The dial includes gold-colored Seiko 5 Sports branding, adding a warm contrast against the rich purple background. The hands and indexes are treated with LumiBrite for improved visibility in low-light conditions, while a day-date display sits at the 3 o’clock position for added everyday convenience.
Inside the Seiko HDB003 is the reliable Seiko 4R36 automatic movement. This movement supports manual winding and includes a stop-seconds function for more accurate time setting. It operates with 24 jewels and provides a power reserve of around 41 hours, making it a practical mechanical movement for regular use.
The watch also features a curved Hardlex crystal and offers 10 bar water resistance, equivalent to 100 meters. While it carries a diver-style design, it is best viewed as a robust sports watch suitable for daily activities, casual wear, and light water exposure.
At 187 grams, the Seiko HDB003 is on the heavier side, which may appeal to those who prefer a solid and substantial wrist presence. The screw-down transparent caseback gives a view of the mechanical movement and also includes limited-edition markings, reinforcing its collectible appeal.
With its anniversary significance, Edo Purple dial, mechanical movement, and limited global production, the Seiko HDB003 5 Sports is likely to attract strong interest from Seiko fans in India. For collectors looking for a unique Seiko 5 Sports model with cultural inspiration and everyday usability, this limited edition could be one of the most appealing releases of 2026.
