Sea of Remnants Sets Sail for Xbox With 2027 Launch Window

Sea of Remnants Sets Early 2027 Release Window for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Mobile

NetEase Games and Joker Studio have confirmed that Sea of Remnants, a free-to-play pirate adventure RPG, is planned for release in early 2027. The game is coming to Windows PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, iOS, and Android. A closed beta test is also scheduled for December, giving selected players an early chance to explore its mysterious ocean world.

Sea of Remnants is an ocean-fantasy role-playing game built around turn-based combat, roguelike exploration, and long-term progression. Players take on the role of a puppetfolk sailor who wakes up with no memories and sets out across a vast sea filled with forgotten islands, dangerous enemies, strange companions, and secrets buried beneath the waves.

At its heart, Sea of Remnants is about more than treasure hunting. The story follows a journey to recover lost memories, rescue people claimed by the sea, and uncover the truth behind the protagonist’s forgotten past. As players sail farther from safety, they will gradually discover who they are, what the ocean has taken from them, and who may still be waiting for them back home.

Every voyage in Sea of Remnants is designed to feel different. The game turns its open ocean world into a replayable roguelike adventure, where each expedition can bring new enemies, bosses, events, crewmates, equipment, skills, and upgrades. Instead of simply traveling from one point to another, players must plan their route, respond to unexpected encounters, and adjust their strategy based on what they find at sea.

The core gameplay follows a Set Sail, Explore, Collect, and Return structure. Players leave the city of Orbtopia, venture into unpredictable waters, gather resources and memories, then return home to strengthen their crew and prepare for the next journey. Even if a voyage does not go perfectly, the rewards brought back can still help build lasting progress.

Combat in Sea of Remnants uses a turn-based system focused on strategy and adaptation. Because each run can offer different weapons, skills, buffs, dice effects, and crew options, players are encouraged to experiment with new team combinations. Success depends on more than raw power. Building a balanced crew, combining abilities effectively, and making the best use of random enhancements will be key to surviving tougher battles.

Persistent progression gives the game a sense of growth beyond each individual voyage. Treasures and resources recovered from the ocean can be used in Orbtopia to improve characters, unlock talents, and strengthen the crew for future expeditions. This means every journey contributes to the larger adventure, even when the sea is unforgiving.

Orbtopia serves as both a home base and an emotional center for the story. This city-state stands on the edge of forgetfulness, offering players a safe harbor between voyages. Here, they can upgrade characters, reorganize their crew, manage resources, and prepare for more dangerous waters. As more people and memories are recovered, Orbtopia becomes a place filled with meaning, reminding players that the adventure is not only about what lies beyond the horizon, but also about what is worth returning to.

The player’s ship is another major part of the experience. Acting as a mobile base and lifeline, the ship can be upgraded and customized to reach distant waters, new biomes, and more powerful enemies. Improving the vessel opens fresh routes and gives players more freedom to explore the ocean’s changing weather, hidden locations, and dangerous regions.

Sea of Remnants also stands out with its stylized puppetfolk characters. Each companion has a distinct personality, backstory, and hidden motivation. Through exploration, conversations, and memory recovery, players will uncover the stories behind these characters and learn how they connect to the larger mystery surrounding the sea.

With its mix of pirate adventure, roguelike exploration, turn-based RPG combat, ship upgrades, and narrative-driven progression, Sea of Remnants is shaping up to be an ambitious free-to-play RPG for players who enjoy replayable adventures and emotional storytelling. Its early 2027 launch across PC, consoles, and mobile could make it one of the more interesting ocean-fantasy RPG releases to watch in the coming years.
