Glasgow’s dynamic game developer, formerly known as NoCode, has unveiled a fresh identity: Screen Burn. This change coincides with the excitement surrounding its new project, Silent Hill: Townfall. The rebranding embraces the nostalgic charm of old technology, evoking images like a ghostly burn on a CRT screen.
Jon McKellan, Screen Burn’s founder and creative director, highlighted the transformation by saying, “We’re not who we were in 2015. We’ve evolved. With a team that now includes coders, our new name reflects the imperfect beauty of classic technology and the enduring power of a good story.”
The team is passionately diving into the Silent Hill universe, collaborating with Konami on this intriguing standalone entry unveiled back in 2022. McKellan, a devoted fan since playing the original Silent Hill on PS1 in 1999, expressed his excitement: “It’s an honor to bring a fresh twist to the series that both honors its legacy and introduces something new.”
While details about gameplay remain scarce, the anticipation is building. So far, we’ve seen a mix of images, teasers, and a trailer that hints at a first-person perspective. This marks a departure from the third-person view used in both Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 Remake and the upcoming Silent Hill f.
McKellan playfully suggested fans revisit the trailer to uncover hidden details. Online speculation suggests a setting in the 1980s, possibly positioning Townfall as a prequel to the first Silent Hill game. With this rebranding and project, Screen Burn is poised to make a lasting impact on the gaming world, blending nostalgia with innovation.
