The much-anticipated unveiling of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 left some tech enthusiasts eagerly waiting for news on Samsung’s rumored tri-fold device, tentatively known as the Galaxy G Fold. While whispers circulate about its potential launch, Samsung appears deeply invested in perfecting this innovative product. According to the head of Samsung’s mobile division, the company aims to launch this flagship by the year’s end, ensuring all usability kinks are addressed. Yet, a conflicting perspective emerges from a company spokesperson who claims the tri-fold has been ready, but market demand remains uncertain.
This spokesperson revealed that the smartphone is fully designed and prepared, but without clear demand, its release is on hold. “We’ve had a tri-fold for some time. It’s not a new concept to us, but we’re debating its viability. Is there genuinely a market demand for this form factor?” they questioned.
Adding to the intrigue, the acting head of Samsung Electronics’ Device Experience Division, TM Roh, confirmed the existence of this tri-fold flagship. However, he stated the final product name is still undecided, and the team is focused on refining the device for a target launch later this year.
As Roh described, “We are working hard on a tri-fold smartphone with the goal of launching it at the end of this year. We are now focusing on perfecting the product and its usability, but we have not decided its name. As the product nears completion, we are planning to make a final decision soon.”
Compounding this speculation, the rumored price point for Samsung’s tri-fold is around 4 million Korean won, roughly translating to $3,000. This significant cost could make it less accessible to the average consumer, raising questions about its commercial success.
With TM Roh as a credible source, representing Samsung’s leadership, it seems prudent to consider his insights as more indicative of the company’s direction. As the year progresses, tech enthusiasts will be keen to see how Samsung navigates this balance of innovation and market readiness. Stay tuned for updates on this potential game-changer in smartphone technology.
