Samsung’s popular clamshell foldable lineup may be facing an uncertain future. A new supply chain rumor circulating on Weibo suggests that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could potentially be the last model in the Galaxy Z Flip series, with the Galaxy Z Flip 9 reportedly absent from early planning discussions.
The claim comes from a well-known tipster who says there has been no sign of supply chain activity connected to a future Galaxy Z Flip 9. Since major smartphone brands typically begin product planning and component discussions more than a year ahead of launch, the lack of early information has sparked speculation that Samsung may be reconsidering the long-term future of its flip-style foldable phones.
According to the rumor, there are several reasons Samsung could be weighing such a move.
One of the biggest factors is cost. Foldable phones remain expensive to produce, especially because of their flexible displays, hinge systems, and compact internal layouts. As component prices continue to rise, Samsung may be finding it harder to maintain strong profit margins on its more affordable clamshell foldable models.
