Samsung has proudly announced that several of their 2024 TV models have been recognized for their environmentally-conscious engineering, receiving the esteemed Product Carbon Reduction Certification from TÜV Rheinland. This distinction is specifically given to products that demonstrate a significant reduction in carbon footprint compared to their predecessors.
### 2024 Samsung TV Models Certified for Reduced Carbon Emissions
Out of the 2024 lineup, eight Samsung TV models from the Neo QLED 4K, Neo QLED 8K, OLED, and The Frame series have been accredited with the Product Carbon Reduction Certification. This confirms Samsung’s dedication to sustainable practices and its efforts to mitigate the environmental impact of its television products. TÜV Rheinland, a globally acknowledged independent third-party organization, conducts testing, inspection, and certification services.
The evaluation of Samsung’s new TV range by TÜV Rheinland included a comprehensive life-cycle assessment, encompassing manufacturing, transportation, and end-of-life disposal. The assessment process adhered to international standards such as ISO 14067 and ISO 14064-4, along with Samsung’s own standard, 2 PfG Q2880/09.23.
Samsung has set a target to obtain Product Carbon Footprint and Product Carbon Reduction certifications for at least 60 of its soundbars and TVs within the 2024 range. The journey began in 2021, with Samsung TVs earning the ‘Reducing CO2’ certification from TÜV Rheinland. The following year, eleven television models were certified, and in 2023, a total of 24 Samsung TVs acquired similar recognitions from both the Carbon Trust and TÜV Rheinland.
The electronics giant’s Visual Display Business, responsible for their TV products, has been at the forefront of the industry by achieving the ‘Product Carbon Footprint Calculation Method’ certification from TÜV Rheinland. This groundbreaking certification entails a meticulous calculation of GHG emissions throughout the product’s lifecycle, thereby ensuring responsible and sustainable product development and management.
Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the corporate mission statement: “As the world’s leading TV manufacturer, it is our responsibility to create products that both redefine TV capabilities while advancing sustainability efforts.”
Samsung’s continued commitment to sustainability, as demonstrated by these certifications, is a hallmark of the company’s leadership in the technological and environmental domains, reinforcing its status as a forward-thinking and responsible manufacturer in the consumer electronics segment.
