Samsung’s Foldable Phone Naming Strategy May Be Changing, but Questions Remain
Samsung’s next foldable phone could arrive with a surprising new identity, according to recent photos showing what appear to be official-looking protective cases. The images have sparked speculation that the company may be preparing to move away from the familiar Galaxy Z branding that has defined its foldable lineup for years.
The biggest talking point is the name seen on the packaging: “Galaxy New Fold.” If accurate, this would mark a major shift for Samsung’s foldable phones, which have used the Galaxy Z name since the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip in 2020. The Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series have become central to Samsung’s foldable strategy, so any change to that branding would be notable.
However, there is still reason to be cautious. While the photos look convincing, the main question is whether the cases are truly made by Samsung. Samsung has previously offered official Kindsuit cases for devices such as the Galaxy S25 series, but similar official accessories have not been clearly established for the Galaxy S26 lineup. That has led some observers to suggest these “Galaxy New Fold” Kindsuit cases could be produced by a third-party manufacturer attempting to imitate Samsung’s packaging style.
At the same time, one detail makes the leak more interesting. The importer listed on the back of the case packaging is Samsung Investment Co. LTD, a Samsung subsidiary in China. That connection gives the images more credibility and suggests the accessories may indeed be related to Samsung’s official product plans.
Still, the name “Galaxy New Fold” may not be the final retail name. Companies often test names internally, use placeholder branding on early accessories, or change marketing names before launch. Samsung could also be preparing a regional naming strategy or experimenting with a refreshed identity for its next-generation foldable devices.
If Samsung does retire the Galaxy Z name, it would represent one of the biggest branding changes in its premium smartphone portfolio. The company has spent years building recognition around the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series, and changing that formula would only make sense if Samsung believes a simpler or more direct name could appeal to a wider audience.
For now, the leaked case images raise more questions than answers. The accessories look believable, and the Samsung-linked importer adds weight to the possibility that they are genuine. But until Samsung officially announces its next foldable phone, the future of the Galaxy Z name remains uncertain.
Whether it launches as the Galaxy Z Fold, Galaxy New Fold, or something else entirely, Samsung’s next foldable is already generating attention. And if the company is truly preparing a major naming shake-up, its upcoming foldable launch could be one of its most closely watched in years.
