Samsung 9100 PRO SSD prices fall sharply, making PCIe 5.0 storage a much better buy
SSD prices have been unpredictable lately, with both DRAM and solid-state drive markets seeing sudden increases and occasional surprise discounts. For PC builders, gamers, and creators planning a storage upgrade, timing matters more than ever. While PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs have remained the better value for most users, Samsung’s latest PCIe 5.0 drives are now becoming much harder to ignore.
The Samsung 9100 PRO 1TB SSD has dropped significantly in price over the past three months. The drive was selling for around $320 earlier, but it is now available for about $249. That brings it much closer to the pricing of Samsung’s previous-generation 990 PRO 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, which is currently around $239.
At only a small price difference, the Samsung 9100 PRO becomes the more attractive option. It offers the benefits of PCIe 5.0 performance, faster sequential speeds, and more headroom for demanding workloads such as large file transfers, content creation, game loading, and memory-heavy applications.

The 2TB Samsung 9100 PRO has also received a major discount. It was priced around $499 a few months ago, but it has now dropped to approximately $399. By comparison, the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB is listed around $389. That means buyers can move up to the newer PCIe 5.0 model for only about $10 more.
The Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB is especially appealing because of its high-end performance rating, including sequential read speeds of up to 14,700 MB/s. That level of speed makes it a strong choice for users who regularly work with large videos, high-resolution photos, game libraries, virtual machines, or other demanding data-heavy tasks.
Both the 1TB and 2TB versions of the Samsung 9100 PRO are available with or without heatsinks. For many desktop users, the non-heatsink model may be the better value, especially if the motherboard already includes an M.2 heatsink. Choosing the version without a heatsink can help save extra money while still delivering the same core SSD performance.
The current discounts make the Samsung 9100 PRO one of the more interesting NVMe SSD options on the market. The 1TB model has fallen from around $320 to $249, while the 2TB version has dropped from around $499 to $399. With prices now sitting close to Samsung’s 990 PRO PCIe 4.0 drives, the 9100 PRO offers a stronger future-ready storage upgrade for buyers who want top-tier speed without paying a massive premium.
If SSD prices rise again, these deals may not last long. For anyone building a high-performance PC or upgrading an existing system, the Samsung 9100 PRO is now worth serious consideration, especially while its pricing remains this close to last-generation alternatives.
