In a conversation with Android Authority, a Samsung executive shared insights, confirming the tri-fold phone has been in development for some time. “We’ve had a tri-fold for some time, designed and everything. So it’s not a new concept to us,” the executive explained. The main concern, however, is determining its market demand: “What we’re debating is the viability. When I say the viability, is there really a demand for this form factor?”
While Huawei has ventured into the tri-fold domain, offering a commercially available model, its steep price makes it less accessible. Samsung is cautious, recalling how the premium pricing of the initial Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip models limited their appeal.
Regarding a potential launch date, the executive emphasized readiness but questioned market viability. The company is “deeply investigating” the situation to make informed decisions. Recent rumors indicate that the tri-fold might not carry the Galaxy G Fold name and could initially be available in China and Korea by the end of this year.
