Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition Aims to Minimize Display Crease with New UFG Glass Amid Contradictory S Pen Support Rumors

Recent leaks suggest that Samsung has a new limited-run foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, set to debut this September. The Special Edition is expected to feature a thinner glass type to minimize display creases, possibly at the cost of S Pen support.

Samsung has not officially announced plans for any foldable releases before summer 2025. For now, the Galaxy Z Fold6, priced at $1,699.99 for the 512 GB variant on Amazon, remains Samsung’s leading foldable, alongside the Galaxy S24 Ultra until its successor arrives early next year.

Among the notable leakers discussing this device, Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) and Evan Blass have provided insights. Blass revealed that the device would be named the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, not the Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim or Ultra. The device is tipped to include a 200 MP primary camera sensor.

Additional details from Young indicate that Samsung plans to begin production in September, coinciding with the launch month. The company anticipates that most sales will occur in China, hinting that the device aims to compete with Chinese foldable brands like Honor, Oppo, and Xiaomi. To reduce production costs and device thickness, the Special Edition will reportedly lack a digitiser, a component required for S Pen support.

Young adds that the device will feature Ultra Flexible Glass (UFG), a variation of Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) that is thicker except in the seam area, enhancing scratch resistance, durability, and reducing seam visibility.
