Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 Slims Down Slightly and Finally Erases the Notorious Screen Crease

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 8 doesn’t look set to reinvent the flip-style foldable when it arrives later next summer, but the latest leaks suggest Samsung is focusing on the kind of refinements that matter most day to day: a thinner build, a lighter feel, and a more polished-looking foldable screen.

According to a new report out of South Korea, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to be about 0.5mm slimmer than the Galaxy Z Flip 7 thanks to a redesigned hinge mechanism. The leaked dimensions point to a phone measuring roughly 166.8mm x 75.4mm x 6.6mm when unfolded, and 85.4mm x 75.4mm x 13.2mm when folded. In other words, it should be slightly trimmer in the pocket while keeping the familiar Flip footprint.

That hinge change may also deliver another welcome improvement: less weight. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is tipped to come in around 8 grams lighter than the Flip 7, with the new hinge again being the main reason. While 8 grams doesn’t sound dramatic on paper, weight reductions are noticeable on compact foldables that are opened and closed constantly throughout the day.

The biggest potential upgrade, however, is the claim that Samsung is aiming for a crease-free foldable display on the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Screen creases have been a common compromise across foldable phones for years, including Samsung’s own lineup, so any meaningful reduction could be a major quality-of-life improvement. If the new hinge really is the key engineering change this generation, it would make sense that it plays a central role in minimizing or eliminating the crease.

Beyond those ergonomic tweaks, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to keep several core specs similar to the Flip 7. Current information indicates Samsung will retain the same camera module, battery capacity, and charging speeds. The phone is also said to stick with a 4.1-inch cover display and a 6.9-inch inner display, continuing the same general approach: a large external screen for quick interactions and a roomy internal display for full smartphone use. The cover panel is expected to house dual rear cameras along with an LED flash, much like the previous model.

On the production side, Samsung is reportedly planning to build between 2.5 million and 3 million units of the Galaxy Z Flip 8 ahead of its second-half 2026 launch window. Interestingly, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 may take the lead in volume, with an estimated 3.5 million units planned. That would mark a notable shift for Samsung’s foldable strategy. In prior years, Flip models accounted for the majority of foldable sales—often around 60% to 70% of the total. But the balance reportedly changed in 2025, when the Galaxy Z Fold 7 gained momentum and even outsold the Flip 7, helped by a thinner design and a lighter build that reportedly undercut even some flagship slab phones.

If these leaks hold, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is shaping up to be an evolution rather than a revolution—focused on comfort, portability, and a cleaner-looking foldable display—while keeping the proven parts of the formula intact.
