The Samsung Galaxy S24 has stirred up quite a discussion regarding its performance and power efficiency—or lack thereof—especially when it comes to its in-house Exynos 2400 chip. In a series of comparisons, the Exynos 2400 seems to be struggling to keep up with the competition, and the results aren’t too forgiving for Samsung’s flagship processor.
One of the core issues lies with the ARM Cortex-X4 performance core, which is reported to consume in excess of 7 watts. This power consumption is noteworthy because it is not just high but also fails to translate into top-tier performance. Comparatively, the competing Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip boasts a performance core that not only draws around 1 watt less power but also outpaces its Exynos counterpart.
This disparity extends to the Cortex-A720 cores as well, with the Exynos 2400 versions drawing close to 1 watt more than those in the Snapdragon chipset yet still delivering slower performance.
These findings suggest that the Exynos 2400 chip is a bit of an energy guzzler, which could in turn affect device endurance and overall user experience. The power inefficiency coupled with subpar performance raises concerns about the processor’s competitiveness in the market and suggests Samsung may need to focus on optimization to level the playing field.
The Samsung Galaxy S24, with its current Exynos 2400 configuration, seems to be facing a clear challenge. Users considering the latest flagship model are likely to weigh these performance and efficiency findings heavily. Samsung, known for its push towards innovation and quality, has an opportunity to address these potential shortcomings in future iterations to meet customer expectations for a high-performing and efficient smartphone experience.
