Samsung continues to demonstrate its commitment to maintaining the security of its devices with the rollout of the March 2024 security update. The Galaxy S20 series, along with other notable models like the Galaxy A32 5G and the latest foldables, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, are receiving this important update.
Security Enhancements for the Galaxy S20 Series
The security-focused update is currently reaching Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra devices across Europe, with both 4G and 5G variants benefiting from the latest patch. The firmware versions updated are G98*FXXSJHXC1 for the 4G models and G98*BXXSJHXC1 for the 5G models. A broader deployment of the update is anticipated to hit Galaxy S20 series devices in other regions, including the United States, shortly.
The March 2024 update includes 46 security vulnerability fixes, blending 37 Android system updates provided by Google and 9 patches addressing specific issues found in Galaxy devices. Users are strongly encouraged to install the update promptly as it addresses at least two critical security flaws that could potentially allow unauthorized remote access to the device.
Although the Galaxy S20 series will not be receiving any new feature updates – having missed out on the Android 14 upgrade – and is approaching the end of its security support lifecycle, users are urged to maintain their device’s security by installing the latest patches through the Settings app.
Other Samsung Devices Receiving Security Updates
The Galaxy A32 5G in Latin America is also benefitting from the March 2024 security patch, with the update identified as A326BXXSACXC5. As is the case with the Galaxy S20, this mid-range smartphone has stopped receiving feature updates and may expect to continue receiving security patches for a short while longer. The availability of this update in other regions remains uncertain.
Meanwhile, Samsung’s foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, have begun to receive the new security patch on a global scale. Users in Europe can identify the updates with build numbers F946BXXS1BXBM for the Z Fold 5 and F731BXXS1BXBM for the Z Flip 5. These devices are not just getting a boost in security, but are also expected to soon receive the One UI 6.1 update, which promises to introduce new and exciting features.
For those with eligible devices, it’s always wise to keep an eye on available updates to ensure their Samsung smartphone stays secure and performs optimally.
