Samsung Display Unveils OBLYX OLED to Power the Next Wave of Gaming Laptops at Bilibili World 2026

Samsung Introduces OBLYX, a New OLED Display Brand for Gaming Laptops

Samsung Display is making a stronger push into the gaming laptop market with the launch of OBLYX, a new OLED branding created specifically for gaming notebooks. The announcement took place during Bilibili World 2026 in China, one of the country’s biggest events for gaming, anime, and digital entertainment.

This marks Samsung Display’s first appearance at the event, where the company showcased a wide range of devices using its OLED and QD-OLED display technology, including laptops, smartphones, and monitors. The biggest highlight, however, was OBLYX, a dedicated name for Samsung’s premium OLED panels designed for high-performance gaming laptops.

The name OBLYX is inspired by obsidian, a naturally dark volcanic glass. Samsung is using that idea to reflect one of OLED’s biggest strengths: true black levels. Unlike traditional LCD panels, OLED displays can switch off individual pixels completely, creating deeper blacks, higher contrast, and a more immersive viewing experience.

With OBLYX, Samsung Display appears to be creating a recognizable identity for its gaming laptop OLED panels. As competition grows in the portable gaming market, branding has become increasingly important, especially as more laptop makers adopt OLED screens to improve image quality, responsiveness, and overall gaming performance.

Samsung plans to offer OBLYX panels in several laptop display sizes, including 14-inch, 16-inch, and 18-inch options. These screen sizes cover a wide range of gaming notebook designs, from compact performance laptops to large desktop-replacement machines.

The OBLYX OLED panels will also support multiple refresh rate options, including 120Hz, 165Hz, and 240Hz. These refresh rates are important for gamers who want smoother motion, faster visual feedback, and a more responsive experience in fast-paced titles such as shooters, racing games, and competitive esports games.

Samsung says the panels can deliver a 0.2ms response time, which is especially useful for reducing motion blur and ghosting during high-speed gameplay. Combined with OLED’s pixel-level lighting control, this could make OBLYX displays appealing to players who want sharp visuals without sacrificing speed.

Color performance is another major focus. The panels are said to support 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, allowing for rich, vibrant, and accurate colors. This makes the displays useful not only for gaming but also for content creation, video editing, digital art, and watching high-quality media.

The promise of infinite contrast is also a key selling point. Since OLED pixels can completely turn off, dark scenes can appear more realistic and detailed, while bright highlights stand out more clearly. For gamers, this can improve atmosphere and immersion, particularly in cinematic story-driven games, horror titles, and visually rich open-world environments.

The launch of OBLYX comes at a time when OLED gaming laptops are becoming more popular. Laptop manufacturers are increasingly moving beyond standard IPS and LCD panels as buyers demand better color quality, faster response times, thinner designs, and more premium display experiences.

By introducing a dedicated OLED brand for gaming notebooks, Samsung Display is positioning itself more aggressively in the growing gaming laptop display market. OBLYX could become a familiar name for buyers looking for laptops with high-end OLED screens, much like other display terms that have become common in gaming monitors and premium notebooks.

As gaming laptops continue to evolve, display quality is becoming just as important as graphics performance, processor speed, and cooling. With OBLYX, Samsung is aiming to make OLED a central part of the next generation of portable gaming machines.
