Samsung Display has taken a significant step as it transitions fully into the OLED display business by selling its remaining LCD equipment. This initiative marks the complete shift away from LCD production, a move that has been underway since the company announced its exit from the market in 2022. Starting in November 2024, Samsung C&T has managed the sale of various high-tech machinery formerly used in LCD production to interested buyers.
The range of equipment on offer includes cutting-edge automatic packaging systems, precision cutting and cleaning machines, and an advanced transportation system, all formerly integral to the operations of Samsung Display’s L8 production facility. As of November, much of this equipment has been dismantled, signaling Samsung’s commitment to its new focus on OLED technology.
This pivot aligns with industry trends leaning towards OLED displays, renowned for their superior image quality, energy efficiency, and increasingly prominent role in a variety of electronic devices—from smartphones to televisions and more. As Samsung solidifies its foothold in the OLED market, it stands poised to advance technology innovations in this expanding field, further enriching consumer experiences worldwide.
