Samsung Could Drop the One UI 8.5 Public Beta Any Day Now—Here Are the Two Big Camera Upgrades Coming

Samsung looks like it’s getting close to kicking off the One UI 8.5 beta program, and the first major sign has now appeared: an early One UI 8.5 beta build for the Galaxy S25 series has been spotted on Samsung’s internal test servers. Historically, this moment matters because Samsung usually opens public beta access not long after a build shows up in internal testing.

Even though some observers originally expected the One UI 8.5 beta to go public in November, that now seems unlikely. Based on Samsung’s typical rollout pattern, a December launch appears far more realistic. In past cycles, public beta releases have followed internal sightings in a little under three to four weeks, sometimes even sooner. If Samsung sticks to that familiar timeline, there’s a solid chance the One UI 8.5 beta could arrive within the next two to three weeks.

Beyond timing, early details from the test firmware hint at potentially meaningful camera changes. In the current internal One UI 8.5 build, two camera modes are missing: Single Take and Dual Rec. Single Take is known for using AI to capture multiple usable photos and clips from a short recording, while Dual Rec allows video recording from two cameras at once, such as the front and rear cameras simultaneously.

It’s still too early to say whether these missing features indicate a deliberate change. Since this is a test build, the absence could simply be a bug or an unfinished part of the software that will be restored before the public beta (or the final release). However, there’s also the possibility Samsung is reworking the camera experience and may be preparing replacements or updated versions of these modes in One UI 8.5.

One UI 8.5 is also shaping up to be more than a camera-focused update. One of the more interesting additions reportedly in the works is smoother eSIM transfer from an iPhone to a compatible Galaxy device without going through a carrier. If this feature arrives as expected, it could remove one of the most frustrating hurdles for people switching between iOS and Android.

On the connectivity side, Samsung is said to be developing smarter Wi‑Fi tools in One UI 8.5. That includes improved control over how apps use cellular data, helping prioritize what matters most in real time. There’s also talk of AI-assisted switching between Wi‑Fi and cellular connections to keep performance stable when networks fluctuate.

With an internal beta now spotted and a likely December public beta window ahead, One UI 8.5 is clearly moving toward a wider release—and it may bring meaningful changes to the Galaxy camera app, better cross-platform eSIM switching, and upgraded Wi‑Fi and data management along the way.
