Samsung Breaks New Ground With the First 6K 3D Display and a Record-Smashing 1040Hz Gaming Monitor, Plus More Premium Launches

Samsung is back with a fresh 2026 Odyssey gaming monitor lineup, and it’s clearly aimed at players who want cutting-edge refresh rates, sharper resolutions, and next-gen connectivity. The new range includes five high-end displays across the Odyssey G9, G6, and G8 families, spanning 27-inch to 32-inch sizes, with IPS and QD-OLED panel options and refresh rates that stretch from 165Hz all the way up to an eye-popping 1,040Hz. Another big highlight across the lineup is the move to the latest DisplayPort 2.1 standard, designed to handle high bandwidth gaming visuals more comfortably.

Samsung says this new wave of Odyssey monitors is built to push immersion and performance beyond what felt realistic just a year ago, focusing on features that cater to both competitive esports play and high-fidelity single-player experiences.

The standout reveal is the Odyssey 3D G9 (G90XH), described as the world’s first 6K gaming monitor with glasses-free 3D. It uses real-time eye-tracking to adjust depth and perspective depending on where you’re viewing from, aiming to create a convincing 3D effect without the usual accessories. It’s a 32-inch IPS display and includes a dual-mode setup: you can run it at up to 165Hz in 6K, or switch to 3K at up to 330Hz. Samsung is also targeting responsiveness with a 1ms GtG response time, which is important for fast-paced games where clarity and reaction time matter.

For players who care most about raw speed, the Odyssey G6 (G60H) targets extreme refresh rates on a 27-inch IPS panel. Samsung says it can reach up to 1,040Hz at HD resolution, which is an astonishing figure for competitive gaming. If you want a sharper picture while still keeping motion incredibly smooth, it also offers a 2K option at up to 600Hz—positioning it as a monitor built for esports-level performance where every frame counts.

The Odyssey G8 series expands the lineup with three additional models in 27-inch and 32-inch sizes, giving buyers more choices depending on whether they prioritize resolution, refresh rate, or panel technology.

The Odyssey G8 (G80HS) comes in at 32 inches with an IPS panel and a dual-mode approach similar to the 3D model, offering 6K at up to 165Hz or 3K at up to 330Hz. It’s designed for gamers who want a large screen and premium clarity, but still want the ability to switch into a higher-refresh mode for competitive play.

Next is the Odyssey G8 (G80HF), a 27-inch IPS monitor that aims to balance sharpness and speed. It supports 5K resolution at up to 180Hz, and also includes a 2K mode that ramps up to 360Hz for smoother motion and lower perceived blur during fast gameplay.

Samsung is also keeping variable refresh rate support front and center. The G60H, G80HS, and G80HF include AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and are G-Sync compatible, helping reduce screen tearing and stutter for a cleaner, more consistent experience across different PC gaming setups.

Rounding out the announcements is another Odyssey G8 variant, the G80SH, built for gamers who want OLED-level contrast and punchy image quality. This 32-inch model uses a QD-OLED panel with 4K resolution and up to a 240Hz refresh rate, aiming to deliver both deep blacks and smooth motion. It’s rated at 300 nits brightness and carries VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification for richer highlights and darker shadow detail. It also includes DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20, which is positioned as a key feature for high-bandwidth, high-quality visuals without relying on compression.

Samsung plans to showcase the full 2026 Odyssey monitor lineup at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, running from January 6 to January 9, 2026.
