RX 9070 XT Analysis: A Focus on Review Insights Over Emerging Data

As fresh reviews of the RX 9070 XT roll in, it seems the new AMD Adrenalin drivers don’t necessarily deliver significant improvements over the initial launch drivers.

Recent tests by Hardware Unboxed suggested that the AMD Adrenalin 25.6.3 driver provided around a 9% performance boost for the RX 9070 XT, giving it an edge over the NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti. However, further analysis by Tech Yes City and Testing Games found that, for most games like Spider-Man, CS2, and Delta Force, the latest driver offered little to no improvement compared to the launch version, Adrenalin 25.3.1. While some games showed noticeable gains, the overall performance remained consistent with earlier drivers.

This sparked discussions about the discrepancy in results. Hardware Unboxed clarified that the perceived improvements were not solely due to the driver update. Other factors, such as Windows updates, Smart Access Memory, and game patches, could have influenced the outcomes. They suggested that the data might be better described as “Review Data vs Latest Data” due to the complexity involved.

Despite this, some sources like Computerbase and Ancient Gameplays observed improvements with the latest drivers. The challenges of replicating results after several months—even with identical drivers—highlight the intricate nature of hardware testing.

While Hardware Unboxed acknowledged the potential for exaggerated claims, they emphasized the need for skepticism and thorough cross-testing when significant performance disparities arise. Although not entirely flawed, their data might not capture the full picture—reinforcing the idea that a 9% improvement might have been an overly optimistic estimate.
